Reply LS on external data channel content access
SA6 provides a response to GSMA NG UPG's liaison statement regarding external data channel access, specifically addressing Question 4 directed to SA2 and SA6.
Question 4: Does 3GPP SA2/SA6 plan to define procedures and architecture for interworking between the IMS session and external (non-IMS) content sources allowing for example pulling information from a public API in a secure manner?
Current Status:
- SA6 has not yet studied the procedures and architecture for interworking between the IMS domain and external (non-IMS) content sources
Potential Reference Framework:
- SA6 references the CAPIF (Common API Framework) defined in 3GPP TS 23.222
- CAPIF introduces third-party API providers that can:
- Securely expose their capabilities to other services under PLMN control
- Enable secure utilization of third-party API provider resources by other services
- The CAPIF architecture and procedures for third-party API providers in non-3GPP systems could potentially serve as a reference for procedures enabling interworking between IMS sessions and external (non-IMS) content sources
Future Plans:
- SA6 commits to keeping GSMA NG UPG informed of progress in this area
To SA:
- SA6 requests SA to consolidate SA6's reply with replies from other working groups and respond to GSMA NG UPG
