# LS Reply on External Data Channel Content Access

## Document Information

- **Source:** 3GPP TSG SA WG6
- **To:** SA (cc: SA1, SA2, SA3, SA4, CT)
- **Response to:** S6-254010//UPG14_109r3 (LS from GSMA NG UPG about external data channel content access requirements)
- **Release:** Rel-20
- **Work Item:** FS_MMTel_Ph2_APP

## Overall Description

SA6 provides a response to GSMA NG UPG's liaison statement regarding external data channel access, specifically addressing Question 4 directed to SA2 and SA6.

### Question Addressed

**Question 4:** Does 3GPP SA2/SA6 plan to define procedures and architecture for interworking between the IMS session and external (non-IMS) content sources allowing for example pulling information from a public API in a secure manner?

### SA6 Response

**Current Status:**
- SA6 has **not yet studied** the procedures and architecture for interworking between the IMS domain and external (non-IMS) content sources

**Potential Reference Framework:**
- SA6 references the **CAPIF (Common API Framework)** defined in **3GPP TS 23.222**
- CAPIF introduces third-party API providers that can:
  - Securely expose their capabilities to other services under PLMN control
  - Enable secure utilization of third-party API provider resources by other services
- The CAPIF architecture and procedures for third-party API providers in non-3GPP systems could potentially serve as a **reference** for procedures enabling interworking between IMS sessions and external (non-IMS) content sources

**Future Plans:**
- SA6 commits to keeping GSMA NG UPG informed of progress in this area

## Actions

**To SA:**
- SA6 requests SA to consolidate SA6's reply with replies from other working groups and respond to GSMA NG UPG
